About the Project
Shujaaz breaks barriers for young people so they can take charge of the future. We do this by telling the stories of the every-day hero to inspire other young people to take charge of their lives. Shujaaz is produces by Shujaaz Inc which, through its youth research network WaCurious, is partnering with Electoral Law and Governance Institute of Africa (ELGIA) to better understand how young people in Elgeyo Marakwet view governance and the issues affecting them. This survey aims to collect credible, evidence-based insights that will strengthen youth inclusion in civic discussions, promote issue-based engagement, and inform national conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Objective of This Training
To equip you with the skills to:
Conduct respectful interviews with youth (18–24 years)
Understand their perceptions of governance
Collect accurate and honest responses
Submit clean and complete data
You are helping amplify real youth voices in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Your Role as a WaCurious Member
As a WaCurious member, you must:
Understand the project
Follow instructions carefully
Conduct interviews respectfully
Record answers exactly as given
Ensure obtain the consent of participants
Submit accurate data
Meet the deadline
To be netral, professional and respectful

Who to Interview
You must interview:
Young people aged 18–24 years
Living in your neighbourhood in Elgeyo Marakwet County
Kenyan citizens
Willing to participate
Gender requirement: 10 males, 10 females totaling to 20 interviews
Important rules:
Do NOT interview below 18 or above 24
Do NOT exceed 20 interviews
Do NOT interview all respondents in one location
Move around your neighbourhood
Quality is more important than speed.
Tools You Need
Before going to the field, ensure you have:
A fully charged smartphone
Enough internet data
The correct survey link
Location feature enabled on your phone
Your national ID
Prepare yourself mentally. Dress neatly. Be confident.
How to Prepare & Conduct the Interview
Step 1: Understand the Survey
Before starting:
Read all questions carefully
Understand who qualifies (18–24)
Do not start interviews if you are unsure about anything.
Step 2: Identify and Schedule
Identify someone aged 18–24
Confirm they are willing
Ask them to give you 15–20 minutes of their time
Choose a public but quiet space
Avoid noisy or crowded areas.
Step 3: Explain Clearly
Tell them:
You are from WaCurious by Shujaaz
The interview is about youth views on governance
They will NOT be paid
Their identity will remain confidential
Only Shujaaz will access their information
They can withdraw at any time
Do not continue without consent.
Step 4: Conduct the Interview
Ask questions exactly as written
Do not explain or rephrase unless necessary
Record answers exactly as said
Stay neutral
Do not rush
Once complete:
Submit the survey on your phone
Confirm it is successfully submitted
Thank the participant
Then move to the next respondent.
How to collect Pin Location Data in the Questionnaire
Location information is important. It helps to know if data is authentic and helps generate a map that shows where data was collected.
Step 1
Navigate to the question that needs you to share your pin location

Step 2
To send current location, locate the icon that looks like a target.

Step 3
Click that icon. You will know it has worked if it turns grey. DO NOT try to enter any numbers manually

Payments
- You will be paid: KES 100 for every successfully completed survey
- Total possible earnings: KES 2,000 for 20 completed interviews
- WaCurious reserves the right to stop the survey at any point and only pay you for work completed up to that point
- WaCurious operates on trust. If any cheating is detected (e.g. fake interviews, repeating answers, interviewing wrong age group):
You will not be paid
You may be excluded from future assignments

Time to Complete The Task
All 20 interviews must be completed and submitted by: Sunday, 1st March 2026 at 6PM
Late submissions may not be paid.
Plan early. Do not wait until the last day.
